When I designed my clothing line, I knew that I wanted to offer extremely high quality products that would last. In addition, K-Staters need to be comfortable while wearing the A.K. Statesman line. From these two criteria I selected fabric types that met my goals, and I’d like to share a little bit about them.
K-State Powercat Dress Shirts
The K-State Powercat dress shirts in the A.K. Statesman line are made from 100% breathable cotton with a twill weave. A twill weave is a weave of diagonal parallel ribs, which is stronger than a plain weave. The twill style weave also gives the shirt a ‘non-iron’ quality, which means it comes out of the dryer virtually wrinkle free. My K-State Powercat shirts are designed to last longer as well as keep you cooler.
Purple and White Striped Pants and Shorts
The purple and white striped pants and shorts in the A.K. Statesman line are made of seersucker fabric, which is an all cotton, breathable fabric. The seersucker English translation comes from Hindustani words meaning “milk and sugar” because of the fabric’s resemblance of its smooth and rough stripes, similar to the textures of milk and sugar.
Seersucker material was popularized in British colonies, and was originally worn by the poor in the U.S. In the 1920s, undergraduate college students started sporting seersucker clothing as a statement. Fitting for K-Staters, A.K. Statesman seersucker pants and shorts are carrying on the tradition of almost a century ago.
The purple blazer featured in the product line is made with 100% wool. As you know, wool has been around forever; more precisely, the first evidence of wool clothing dates back to 1500 BC. Wool is made of fibers obtained primarily from sheep. Wool is also a breathable fabric, which makes it much cooler for wearing in the summer. Fun fact: the U.S. supplies around 17% of the world’s wool.
Purple and White Striped Ties
Let’s not forget the selection of A.K. Statesman purple and white striped ties. Not only are they the sharpest, classiest looking ties available, they are also HANDMADE from 100% natural silk yarns. Silk is a naturally produced protein fiber, and gives the ties that shiny, smooth finish. The quality of the handmade ties is unmatched, meaning it’s going to last you a long time.
